If you’ve ever partied in Madison, Wisconsin (and yes, Wisconsin definitely knows how to party) then you’ve probably been out to a night that Erin Keeffe (aka OCD Automatic) provided the beats for. Bad for Madison, but good for Chicago, Keeffe has relocated to our fine city (becoming my nearby neighbor in the process) and has been gracing our nightlife scene with his blend of house and disco.
Keeffe got his start in Madison with fellow disco fanatic, Aaron Davis (VDRK). Though Davis now lives in Brooklyn, the duo have continued collaborating long distance, the results of which you can hear below as Tell My Love. Tell My Love steps away from nu (or even traditional) disco, sounding like a clubby version of the retro kitsch meets James Bond aesthetic of Pizzicato Five. Keeffe and Davis’ plans for their newest projects include material aligned to classic house and funk.
If you like what you hear below, I highly suggest grabbing Keeffe’s Joystyxx Radio live mix here. Recorded in Chicago at 88.7 WLUW it’s a slick, smooth tour through a few selections of his original material paired with familiar favorites like Curses!, Munk and Miami Horror. Stay tuned here for more from Chicago’s newest disco addition. OCD Automatic and Le Principle drop their new single, Paper Cat, in late March/early April on Solid Bump and you can snag a sneak preview here.
If you’re in Chicago, be on the lookout for OCD Automatic at a venue near you, and those of you in NYC should plan on catching VDRK and Le Principle this Saturday at Discovery.
